Migrating Off Microsoft Dynamics RMS Without Closing Your Store

If your store still runs Microsoft Dynamics RMS (Store Operations), you already know the position you’re in. Microsoft stopped developing it years ago, the partner network that used to support it has largely moved on, and every year the hardware and SQL Server versions underneath it get harder to keep patched and insured. The software isn’t going to fail today. But it isn’t getting safer, either, and “we’ll deal with it next year” has a shelf life.

The usual objection to replacing it isn’t the register itself — it’s the changeover. A single-register liquor, grocery or convenience store can’t close for a weekend to migrate item files, price levels, tax groups and vendor records by hand, and a bad cutover means a bad Saturday night. That risk is the real reason a lot of independent retailers stay on RMS long after they know they should move.

• Full data import — departments, items and aliases, vendor and customer records, discount schemes and tax groups (including fixed-amount taxes) come across by natural key, with a dry run you can review before anything commits.

We’d rather tell you what’s actually built than round up. The core register — scan, price, tax, discounts, age verification, shift/cash-up — is built and tested against real RMS-derived data, and we’ve been steadily closing out the RMS report catalogue store owners actually use day to day. It is an active build, not a finished museum piece, and we’ll tell you plainly if something you need isn’t there yet rather than promise it exists.
